Hypnagogia From California

 

 

Before going to sleep, I've long experienced what I have come to understand as Hypnagogia - I see bizarre images and hear inexplicable sounds. I made a series about this phenomena whilst living in California the Summer of 2012.  This is a selection from that series which later travelled in The Dolly Files and sold at Underline Gallery NYC.  A series of squeezable soft sculptures was also made from this series, and they appear in the last picture. I recorded myself singing on small toy devices, and stuffed them inside the sculptures. When you squeeze the Hypnagogic Head Pillows, they begin singing strange songs.
